In some of his first public comments as the CEO of Nike, Elliot Hill pledged that sport would be the “north star” for the company moving forward, harkening back to the Blue Ribbon Sports origins of the company where Phil Knight tirelessly endeavored to make best-in-class footwear for collegiate athletes. As Hill and the Swoosh enter their first full year in this new era, they’re not wasting much time redoubling those efforts, as Nike Running just announced the “After Dark Tour.”
A globe-trotting spree of distance running, the catchily-titled race series is focused on female runners, positioned as “the ultimate girls’ weekend” and a part of the “ongoing mission to invite more women into sport.” The nighttime excursion will bring half marathon and 10K races throughout six different cities, beginning with an April 12th date in Sydney, venturing through a May 10th doubleheader in Seoul and Mumbai, and culminating with a June 21st event in Mexico City.
For our purposes, it’s impossible to ignore that this press blast comes as a new product calendar kicks off. To that end, many of Nike’s foremost runner series have ushered in their latest editions in the weeks leading up; from the Vomero 18 to the Vaporfly 4 to the most recent, the Pegasus Premium.
