Original article published November 5th, 2024:

With the New York Marathon in the rear view mirror, competitive runners have a chance to catch their breath before major competitions ramp up again in Tokyo next spring. Getting ahead of the game, Nike just surfaced an almost all-black colorway of their marathon-winning AlphaFly 3 runner for 2025.

Official images reveal stealthy black and “Metallic Medium Ash” makeup, with “Olive Aura” factored in on the Swoosh and forefoot portion of the midsole. Notably, the heel tab features text reading “running is mental” as opposed to the usual “Nike Racing,” offering a bit of subtle motivation for when you’re on the cusp of that necessary runner’s high.

We published a full technical breakdown of the AlphaFly 3 upon its release earlier this year, but here are some highlights: The AlphaFly 3 is Nike’s lightest AlphaFly shoe to date, clocking in at just 220 grams in a men’s size 10. The stack height is just under 40 millimeters in that same size, adhering to regulations set by World Athletics, while the shoe features an 8mm drop from heel to forefoot. Hardware includes dual Air Zoom units, a full-length carbon fiber plate for propulsion, and a heel-to-toe ZoomX foam midsole. Ethiopian-born runner Sifan Hassan won the London Marathon in the AlphaFly 3 last year, marking the shoe’s first major marathon win.

The AlphaFly 3 “Black/Metallic Medium Ash/Olive Aura” will release Spring 2025 for $285, hopefully well ahead of the Tokyo Marathon in March. See official images below if you’re considering copping.
