Best Look Yet At The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined”

The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined” is one of 2025’s most anticipated Jordan releases. As the official next chapter of the Jumpman’s Reimagined series of footwear, this upcoming release is an homage to the iconic original from 1990, but with an added twist that lives up to the name.

Where To Buy The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined”

The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined” is currently scheduled to release on February 8th, 2025 on SNKRS and Jordan retailers globally; full family sizes (Adult/GS/PS/TD) are confirmed (more info in our Jordan Release Dates page). Given the significance of the release, it is very likely that the shoes will drop via a raffle/Draw format. Expect Nike to employ its usual strategy of drops, including earlier unannounced releases via the SNKRS Pass, SNKRS Shock Drop, and more.

Below is a set of official retailer images of the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined”, which provides the most accurate and up-to-date look at these Jordan 5 releases. A Brief History Of The Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic”

The Air Jordan 5 originally debuted in 1990; Michael Jordan wore the shoes during the 1990 All-Star Game. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 5 was inspired by fighter planes from Word War II — specifically the P-51 Mustang fighter jet. The most notable detail of the Air Jordan 5 was the oversized tongue covered in reflective silver panelling.

Jordan 5 Black Metallic 1990 Originals

The “Black Metallic” was one of FOUR original colorways to release in 1990. The Black/Metallic is arguably the most coveted and recognizable pair, but there are also two versions of the “Fire Red” as well as an off-court colorway called the “Grape”. One of the “Fire Red” pairs as well as the Grape did not feature reflective tongues.

What Is The “Reimagined” Series?

The Reimagined series was introduced by Jordan Brand back in 2021 with the idea of “reimagining” of an original, iconic Air Jordan of the past with new materials. The first official “Reimagined” release is the Air Jordan 1 “Patent Bred” from December of 2021, which changed out the original leather for a glossy patent leather. The next Reimagined release came nearly a year later with the Air Jordan 1 “Lost & Found”, which introduced the aged aesthetic. Many mistakenly believe the “Lost And Found” to be the first Reimagined release.

The Air Jordan 3 “White Cement Reimagined” and Air Jordan 1 “Royal Reimagined” released in 2024; the Air Jordan 4 “Bred Reimagined” dropped February 17th, 2024.

The next confirmed releases of the Reimagined series are the Air Jordan 1 “Black Toe Reimagined” and the Air Jordan 5 “Black Metallic Reimagined”.
