Kevin Durant gave us one of the most iconic award ceremony speeches of all time in 2014. Claiming his first NBA MVP award, Durant thanked his mother Wanda by saying “you the real MVP” just five days before Mother’s Day; a heartwarming tribute that transcended basketball and remains in mainstream consciousness to this day. Now over ten years and change since Durant authored the phrase, his most sought-after signature model just surfaced in a new colorway that shines a light on that moment in time.
Shown below via detailed images posted by @solesbyzay_backup, the Nike KD 4 comes decked out with embellishments inspired by KD’s speech and the MVP award itself. Teal insoles features text reading “you the real MVP” on the left, while the Slim Reaper’s silhouette is incorporated into a trophy on the right. The shoe itself stands out with a gold basketball affixed to the tongue, complemented by protruding gold Swooshes and KD logos. The blue and white scheme seen elsewhere doesn’t appear to have any obvious association, but could allude to the blue suit and tie combo Durant wore to the awards ceremony.
It’s worth noting that Durant did not wear the KD 4 during that MVP campaign; it was the Nike KD 6 that was on his feet throughout that incredible run.
The Nike KD 4 “MVP Award” is currently projected to release Spring 2025 for $150, hot off the heels of a 2024 retro run consisting of several early 2010s colorways. See detailed images below if you’re considering copping a pair.
Steering focus to a more immediate release, the KD 4 Aunt Pearl returns October 25th.
