Nike’s Retro Of The LD-1000 Marches On With OG “University Gold”

The Swoosh's waffle-soled runner returns to its roots.

Nike’s Retro Of The LD-1000 Marches On With OG “University Gold”

As the lifestyle lean of streetwear continues, Nike is clearly placing a lot of effort into matching the meteoric rise of silos like the adidas Samba. We’ve made the comparison between the Three Stripes’ tentpole and the Field General before, but the resurgent LD-1000 shouldn’t go unmentioned in that conversation. After checking off a splashy debut via a string of Stussy collabs, the LD-1000 now emerges in “University Gold.”

This edition reprises a true original colorway, the collegiate blend partially introducing way back in 1977. As Nike lays out in the SNKRS description for this pair, that initial product run was drastically mixed; though the Swoosh big on the flared heel for the runner, it led to massive performance issues that eventually spurred a full recall. Though the specific gambit didn’t pay off, consumer reaction to the move communicated a wide understanding for Nike’s innovative attitude towards their footwear.

Though you probably won’t be pulling the LD-1000 out of the closet for your next 5K, the simplistic design language it sports all these years later is very much a match for current sneaker trends. A complementary mix of “University Gold,” “Safety Orange” combine on the leather & suede upper, while “a subtle nod to Nike’s Blue Ribbon Sports days” arrives with the royal blue insole.

The Nike LD-1000 “University Gold” lands on October 11th via SNKRS and select retailers, retailing at just $100. Check official images included just ahead and stay locked in to our Sneaker Release Dates hub for further updates.
