Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” Returning July 12th, 2025

Updated November 19th, 2024: A release date for the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” has been set for July 12th, 2025, per @zsneakerheadz.

It’s been said time and time again, but 2025 is going to be rough on the wallet for Air Jordan heads. In celebration of the line’s 40th anniversary, Jordan Brand is bringing back a storm of iconic pairs like the Jordan 1 Bred, Jordan 3 Black Cat, and Jordan 5 Grape to name a few. With new standouts seemingly popping up every week, the Air Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” from 2015 is the next highly-celebrated addition to an already jam-packed Jordan Release Dates 2025 slate.

According to Sole Savy, next year’s Jordan 1 “Shattered Backboard” is expected to feature the same color blocking scheme as the original 2015 release, a sensible choice given 2025 marks the shoe’s tenth anniversary. We’ve of course seen the release of subsequent “Shattered Backboard” AJ1s since the design theme landed, including a 2.0 with “Chicago” color blocking, a satin women’s pair, and a controversial 3.0 with textured patent leather, all of which revolve around the same orange “Starfish” hue.

Official images should confirm reports of OG color blocking as we creep closer to a release, but there will also be questions regarding the shoe’s material quality that will take longer to answer. The 2015 “Shattered Backboard” is regarded as one of the more premium AJ1s in recent memory; a welcome anomaly given the less than stellar leathers used on most modern-day pairs.

To the uninformed, the “Shattered Backboard” design theme is inspired by an orange and black jersey Michael Jordan wore during an exhibition game in Italy in 1986, where he shattered the backboard while dunking as implied. Fittingly, the insoles of the original 2015 pair feature a broken rim with shards of glass, so it would only be natural for the 2025 retro to do the same.

There will be plenty more to unpack as it pertains to official images and in-hand looks, so stick with us while we provide timely updates to this page and our Jordan Release Dates hub.
