Updated July 20th, 2024: The Tekken 8 x Nike Air Foamposite One “Kazuya” will be releasing via SNKRS Shock Drop for those in attendance at EVO2024 in Las Vegas. A second colorway inspired by the character Jin was also revealed during the Live Stream event.
Without question one of the most unexpected collaborations of the year, Nike has teamed up with fighting game franchise Tekken for a unique project around the Nike Air Foamposite One. You heard correct: Tekken 8 Foamposites are a thing, and they’re coming soon to Nike.
A quick overview of the design: this Air Foamposite One features a fully iridescent finish on the upper, with a croc-skin overlay mimicking the exotic leathers seen on the jacket of Kazuya Mishima, one of the central characters of the entire Tekken series. Replacing the carbon-fiber plate at the mid-foot is a smooth black plate, while a leather replaces the suede on the collar that wraps around the laces and the ankle.
Tekken 8 iconography is present on the left tongue and the insole, while Mishima’s specialty Fist move is highlighted on the unique outsole design seen through the translucent rubber. The shoe packaging for the Tekken Foamposites are unlike a conventional shoe-box; it splits open at the middle, with both shoes locked in by elastic straps.
July 8th, 2024 is also National Video Game Day, which suggests the appearance of official images is hardly coincidental. Sneaker News can confirm that a release is currently scheduled for September, but it’s possible Nike could employ some earlier drops from now until then.
If you’re a true Tekken fanatic and know the character bios down to a tee, then you’d know that this collab isn’t as random as it seems. Kazuya Mishima, the inspiration behind the design of this Foamposite, is confirmed to be a sneaker collector in his earliest character bio from Tekken 1.
