The Nike Air Max 2013 broke from that mold slightly, if only because its retro effort came less than 10 years from its earnest debut. That’s an instructive point for its latest colorway, a comprehensive paint job in “Volt.”

For newer heads, there was an era when the neon green “Volt” utilized so heavy here was entirely inescapable, a time period that the Air Max 2013 missed out on by maybe a year or two. Making up for lost time, the model takes pretty well to the fluorescent shade, its most intriguing application in a gradient contained in the full-length Air unit. Another tried-and-true formula is jet black contrast, adorning the outsole and Swoosh on this pair.

As the whole way through this renewed run, this Air Max 2013 presents a middle ground option for enthusiasts, sporting modern, souped-up Air Max tech while still exhibiting some design trends that now read as retro nearly a decade after its introduction.
