We’ve documented the Boston brand’s need to experiment with the New Balance 550 plenty at this point, but even given that prompt, their creatives continue to surprise. Following patent leather, textile and golf reimaginings of the vintage basketball shoe, the latest revamp comes in the form of delicate lace, coming this Fall.
Broadly speaking, this is a monochromatic colorway for the New Balance 550, painting platinum tones from heel to toe across the classic all-leather upper. Of course, the material on the underlying panels is the real draw, the delicate material protected by layered panels as it sinks into this shoe’s profile. The full pattern is most easily seen on the toe-box, where stringy fabric sections weave across in spindly fashion. The “N” branding on the side gets a heavy dose of it as well, one of the few sections to break up the consistent palette with a dash of pure white.
This lace New Balance 550 will be a women’s exclusive. No concrete release date is set as of writing, but expect a launch in the coming weeks as we near Fall ’24.
In other NB news, the Stone Island New Balance 574 Legacy reunites the two imprints on June 14th.
