The Converse Run Star Trainer is the latest demonstration of how the past often informs the present in sneaker design. What separates the latest model in the widely popular Run Star family is that it’s drawing from an astounding number of sources.

According to Converse, the Run Star Trainer takes cues from nearly twenty heritage silhouettes that were each individually created for for sports. These include volleyball, karate, fencing, the triple jump, and even the steeple chase — all of which are or have been events during the summer Olympics. The outsole traction pattern also takes after the iconic Chuck Taylor All Star, with dimensions exaggerated to scoop up the shoe. The heel features the Star logo of the brand; this detail is also seen in the Run Star Hike.

The materials used for the newest member of the Run Star family are ideal for every day wear. Suede, nylon, and leather are applied across five of the introductory colors; this contrast of texture is what comfort-fashion mavens seek in their casual sneakers.
