Are These Nike Air Max 1s For Breakdancing?

Flipped branding gives off that vibe.

Are These Nike Air Max 1s For Breakdancing?

In case you missed it, Nike is releasing a breakdancing sneaker called the Nike Jam for the Paris Olympics this year. It features an upside-down Swoosh on the midsole so that when flipped, it appears right side up. Obviously Tinker Hatfield wasn’t inspired by breakdancing when he designed the Nike Air Max 1, but this latest grade school pair lends itself to the sport with notable design choices.

Flipped Nike branding on the tongue and heel deliver the shoe’s most apparent breakdancing callbacks, but other multi-colored elements push that narrative even further. A painted, wavy Swoosh conjoins the lateral and medial sides at the heel, taken in shades of red, white, and blue under traditional leather logos. Orange hits on the forefoot and eyestay complement a navy quarter and sock liner, while the base, mudguard, collar, and midsole drop color in favor of all-white treatments.
