Jovani Hernandez The New Balance 998 has had a blockbuster year. The last 11 months have seen it at the center of some of the brand’s most celebrated collaborations. Along the way, however, the 30-year-old silhouette has also dressed up in its three classic color schemes – “Grey,” “Navy,” and now “Black.”
Over the last two decades, the premium, Made in USA silhouette has formed a vital part of New Balance‘s catalog. The 2010s saw several compelling ensembles that now boast cult-like followings. Yet, the sneaker’s inaugural styles haven’t lost their footing, delivering versatile style to customers of all ages and preferences. While different than the Made In USA pairs produced as part of Teddy Santis’ platform, the newly-surfaced pair is unquestionably a New Balance 998. Everything from the panel arrangement to the slightly-yellowed midsole harkens back to 1993, the year in which the premium running shoe debuted. Components across the upper opt for varying shades of grey, evoking the Boston-based company’s heritage. Tried-and-proven cushioning and traction solutions underfoot keep things straightforward, allowing for the “Black” upper to revel in the spotlight.
