After the USA National Team fell to Canada for fourth place in the 2023 FIBA World Cup, a number of NBA superstars came out of the woodwork to present their candidacy for the 2024 Olympic Games. From Kevin Durant and LeBron James to Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, Bam Adebayo and Devin Booker, the League’s best are prepared to reclaim Gold in Paris, France. Joining the star-studded 12-man roster will be the recently revealed return of the Nike Kobe 4 “Gold Metal”.
Initially reported by trusted sneaker sources Sneaker Files and zsneakerheadz, the gold-plated silhouette was originally released in July of 2009 in honor of the 2008 Redeem Teams’ Gold Medal victory in Beijing; which also saw Bryant serve as team captain. 15 years later, the low-top trim returns in court-ready Protro tooling. A regal, snakeskin gilding takes hold of the “Metallic Gold” toe box, collar and heel counter that’s stamped with Bryant’s #10 jersey number with Team USA. Much like its OG counterpart, the bright white mid-foot is juxtaposed via “Dark Obsidian” tinted Flywire and profile swooshes that are delicately cast in a “University Red” trim. The vibrant crimson accents breathe further life into the laces and medial side of the tread while a faint gum contrast along the tip of the outsole compliments the crisp white midsole underfoot.
The Nike Kobe 4 Protro “Gold Medal” is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2024 in celebration of the 2024 Olympic Games. In the meantime, the pair can be seen below in first-look imagery below.
