A Rainbow Gradient Animates This Nike Air Max Plus

Historically overshadowed by other visible Air-cushioned silhouettes, the Nike Air Max Plus has been celebrating its 25th anniversary in the spotlight.

As the world awaits for its original “Hyper Blue” look to return (you’ll have to wait until 2024, for some reason), Sean McDowell’s design from 1998 continues to explore color palettes. The latest result brings a rainbow-reminiscent gradient to the sneaker’s mesh base layer. A rich purple appears at the tip of the toe, transitioning into a punchy orange at the mid-foot before turning into a Caribbean-friendly combination of yellow and green around the heel. Supporting details throughout the Air Max Plus opt for a tamer finish, delivering pitch-black contrast to the titular gradient.

Underfoot, McDowell’s evolutionary sole unit design – which was exclusive to Foot Locker for quite some time – also favors a straightforward color scheme. Air Max bubbles at the forefoot take on a dark makeup, while the Tuned Air unit at the rear-foot enjoys a deep blue finish complemented by citrus tones on the medial side. Surrounding midsole material indulges in a clean white hue, but the outsoles rooted in Nike Running heritage deviate in a black style. “Tn Air” badges at the center of the tread reprise their traditional look, with a medley of orange, green, and yellow animating components underneath the Tuned Air bag.

Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead, as you wait for firm nike.com launch details. The rainbow-accented shoe is priced at $175 USD.

In related sneaker news, the Air Jordan 12 “Cherry” is set to release for the first time since 2009 on October 28th.
