One of the more humorous superstar nicknames of the 2000s belonged to Gilbert Arenas, the Washington Wizards star who was regarded in the ranks of the league’s most prolific scorers. Dubbed “Hibachi” for chopping up his opponents, Arenas was justifiably regarded alongside the likes of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, and Allen Iverson, and it’s crazy to think that despite averaging 29.3 points a game in the 06/07 season, he ranked fourth in the league. Things sorta went downhill for Agent Zero after that campaign as injuries and non-basketball issues, fading from the limelight as the aforementioned names continued to rise.
Things are looking better than ever for Arenas whose signature shoe, the adidas Gil Zero, is returning to the masses for the first time ever. We already told you about the UNDRCRWN Gil Zero, but it also looks like the similarly limited Gil Zero “Hibachi” will be making a comeback as well. These were originally a collaboration with hibachi-style chain Benihana, and only 1,000 pairs with the restaurant’s logo on the heel were released in the DC area (the 2022 version will say “Hibachi” instead). There were a number of hilarious TV spots that were produced to promote the shoes, and adidas appeared to have something special in their hands due to Gil’s charisma.
Currently a release date of January 27th, 2022 is expected, so stay tuned for updates because plenty more Gil Zero colorways are scheduled to release this year.
