Since its debut in late August 2020, the New Balance Vision Racer has delivered a glimpse into the eccentric mind of Jaden Smith. As with a previous iteration of the fashion-forward silhouette, the latest take champions sustainability while proffering a new, bold pink ensemble developed in partnership with Greenhouse.
The eighth iteration of Smith’s original design under the New Balance banner, the near-tonal pink style features partially-recycled materials and vegan materials throughout its robust upper and sole unit. Spinnex paneling doesn’t make an appearance on the vibrant rose option, but the synthetic leather pieces’ thin polyester base comprises of 60% recycled polyester; textile across the tongue and lining also indulges in waste-conscious composition, deriving from post-consumer plastic rather than oil. And just as it doesn’t forgo the titular pink tone, the chunky, segmented sole unit also boasts an eco-friendly build, as the midsole includes 5% EVA regrind. Outsoles maintain their semi-translucent finish, and reveal a new message: “[DO YOU SEE IT YET?]” (We imagine Smith’s referring to “the vision”.)
