Michelle Obama modeled razor sharp footwear at the star-studded Albies Awards hosted by George and Amal Clooney‘s Clooney Foundation for Justice at the New York Public Library the night of Sept. 26.

Although she didn’t walk the red carpet at the event, Obama was spotted inside the awards bringing an edgy elegance to the event with a finely tailored black monochrome suit, a custom Atelier Versace look. The ensemble included a double-breasted blazer with a satiny lapel adorned on the left side with a row of criss-crossing safety pins.

The golden interlocking pins, which graduated in size, added a unique flashy embellishment to the look. Her jacket matched a pair of chic wide-leg pants, which obscured some of her shoes. The “Becoming” author accessorized with well-coordinated gold earrings.

The former first lady’s footwear was not entirely visible, but it was abundantly clear she wore an ultra-pointy black shoe with a glossy finish. She likely wore a pump from Versace, perhaps one of the brand’s Slice styles which boast a dramatically pointed toe.

The Slice Slingback Pumps 105 mm, for example, feature this acute angle in front and a thick strap around the ankle with silver detailing. Versace’s Slice Pumps 105 mm, meanwhile, feature a crystal-embellished ankle strap — Lily Collins wore the shoe just recently at an “Emily in Paris” event held at the Paley Museum.

It’s unsurprising that Obama would pick out a statement-making pointed black shoe for the philanthropic event last night. She’s shown her penchant for that silhouette in the past, having slipped on a pair of bow-adorned black kitten heel pumps from Jimmy Choo at the Democratic National Convention in August, where she endorsed Kamala Harris for president.

Versace is a lead partner for the event and ceremony over multiple years, as part of the Versace Foundation’s ongoing commitment for equity and equality globally. The awards – named after Justice Albie Sachs for his seminal role in ending apartheid in South Africa, aim to shine a spotlight on brave individuals who have devoted their lives to justice. Versace also dressed Donatella Versace, Amal Clooney, Gabrielle Union, Dwyane Wade, Melinda Gates, Phoebe Gates and more.

The Albies sees prominent figures from the worlds of human rights, business, entertainment, fashion, and technology come together to show their support to the honorees whose work and sacrifices The Clooney Foundation for Justice has chosen to honor.
