Jill Biden put on another pair of pumps to welcome Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and his wife Yuko Kishida to the White House in Washington, D.C., on Thursday. The style is a staple for the first lady during dressier events.
Biden has worn pumps throughout her husband’s time in the political spotlight. In October 2023, for the Human Rights Campaign’s 2023 National Dinner, she put on a suede pair.
But she isn’t the only one: for the State dinner, Biden selected a shimmering shoe that is similar to an option often sported by Princess of Wales Kate Middleton. She wore a sparkly pump stiletto from Oscar de la Renta as early as 2017. She turned to them again in 2019 for a glamorous night out in 2019 at the 100 Women in Finance’s Philanthropic Initiatives gala. Those shoes are de la Renta’s Cabrina pump.
The State Dinner was a part of an overall state visit discussing technology, military, and economic partnerships. Former President Bill Clinton, as well as his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, attended the dinner. As did Robert DeNiro and Jeff Bezos.

About the shoe
Biden’s footwear is a classic, triangle-shaped, pointed-toe stiletto pump. The heel is likely about 4 inches.
As a silhouette, the pump is versatile, able to be worn with everything from jeans and a T-shirt to an evening gown. Often made of leather, it can be rendered in a variety of fabrications, which increases its versatility. Biden’s shimmering pump perfectly matches her Oscar de la Renta gown.
Jill Biden’s shoe style
Biden opts for the classic when it comes to shoes, wearing footwear from Dior, Valentino and Stuart Weitzman as well as Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choo. She can be spotted in everything from sneakers to suede boots and pointed-toe pumps, which are one of her staples.
